The 40 apartment student residence and visiting lecturer building together form a sheltered green space that links to UTAS learning areas in the existing Burnie Makers Workshop. Overlooking the waters of Bass Straight and the sweep of Burnie Beach, they are located a step away from sands, waves and beach boardwalk. Common rooms within the residence as well as one adjacent to the student laundry below the lecturer apartments encourage interpersonal interaction and support learning in the globalised information age. Environmentally sustainable design (ESD) principles achieve optimal solar orientation for all the apartments, user comfort, a healthy environment, and energy efficiencies. These National Rental Affordability Scheme (NRAS) apartments, each have a fully appointed kitchenette, open bedroom / study area and private bathroom.
