Manuka Road Courtyard Garden reflects a commonly arising Tasmanian design difficulty of how to resolve arrival and passive solar gain from the north on a site that slopes towards spectacular views to the south. We designed a lushly planted sunken arrival garden leading into the residence. Cutting into the slope enabled the home to be built on the level and sun, warmth and light into the interior for thermal comfort. The interior living areas open to a sheltered, intimate exterior space and micro-climate on the north as well as to a broad functional verandah and water views on the south.
